The Office for Refugees, Archdiocese of Toronto (ORAT) had another impressive year in 2019. ORAT lives out the Gospels by helping refugees from around the world who are seeking a fresh start in Canada.

Some highlights from 2019 include:

  • 528 newcomers welcomed (400 from the Middle East, 111 from Africa and 17 from Asia)
  • 532 new resettlements initiated (361 from the Middle East, 114 from Africa and 57 from Asia)
  • 108 information sessions and welcome orientations conducted

ORAT is the largest private sponsor of refugees in Canada. Over the past decade, it has brought more than 4,500 newcomers to Canada.

In the midst of the Syrian refugee crisis, ORAT launched Project Hope, which has raised $4.3 million and has brought 439 newcomers to Canada so far (another 118 are waiting for the Government of Canada to approve their application).
