The “Sunday of the Word of God” is observed on the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time and was established by the Holy Father on September 30, 2019, through his Motu propio Apostolic Letter, “Aperuit illis”.

Today is “Sunday of the Word of God” and it is to be devoted to the celebration, study, and dissemination of the Word of God.  We recall the importance given by the Second Vatican Council to rediscovering Sacred Scripture for the life of the Church. In his apostolic letter, the Holy Father tells us that the celebration has “ecumenical value, since the Scriptures point out, for those who listen, the path to authentic and firm unity.”  Parishes are invited to acknowledge the importance of the Word of God in our faith journey and to consider ways to mark this weekend with an appreciation for the richness of the ongoing dialogue between the Lord and his people.
